Captain America: Brave New World brings Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson into the spotlight as the new Cap—but the film struggles under the weight of its own ambition. The idea has potential with all the political drama and a worldwide crisis, but the plot is a bit all over the place, and the bad guys just aren’t that interesting or intimidating. Mackie delivers a good performance, but is often overshadowed by Harrison Ford’s more compelling take on President Thaddeus Ross, who eventually transforms into Red Hulk making it seem like President Ross was more of a main character than Sam Wilson. The action scenes are mediocre, and the CGI feels unfinished in several key moments. Despite aiming to explore serious themes like legacy and leadership, the movie never digs deep enough. Instead, it ends up feeling like a transitional entry in the MCU—one that sets up more than it delivers. Overall the movie is very mediocre.
