Beyoncè, singer-songwriter and businesswoman, has been nominated for 99 Grammys and has won 32 of them. In 2025, at the 2024 Grammys event, Beyoncè won the award of Album of the Year; here’s why she didn’t deserve it.
Now, do not misunderstand me. I, too, am an avid Beyoncè fan, however, sometimes you just have to admit defeat. There is no way on earth Cowboy Carter had any business winning that grammy, especially in the shadow of the other nominated albums, and not only that, but her past albums.
Andre 3000, Jacob Collier, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Billie Eilish were nominated for the Album of the Year along with Beyoncè. All very talented stars, but of course, one stood out in the crown. Billie Eilish and charting album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT was an undeniable masterpiece, forgiving whatever music taste you may have or opinions of Billie Eilish that may have festered in those few dark years where it was ‘emo’ for kids to like listening to her.
HIT ME HARD AND SOFT has multiple hit songs, is easily recognizable, and gained a new and very welcome fame for Billie Eilish. The release of this masterpiece was probably the best thing that happened this year and it was definitely the best album that was released this year, full and well deserving of the Grammy.
Cowboy Carter has basically nothing to show for except for the incessantly annoying track Texas Hold Em’, which in of itself was only ever popular because it trended on TikTok. I can understand the idea of being excited for a famous and extremely popular star to release an album in a different genre than what they normally would but on the other hand, many listeners of Cowboy Carter say that the album and concept is an insult to the genre country.
All forms of social media are blowing up right now with clips of Beyoncè’s win and the other nominees. Even if you’re not partial to Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, which would surely have won a popular vote by listeners, you can’t deny the blood, sweat, and tears that were put into the other albums. Upcoming artist Chappell Roan and previous TV star Sabrina Carpenter were also nominated for this Grammy. Along with Taylor Swift! While there is a large base of people who don’t like her, there is also an ENORMOUS and insane fan base full of people who love her and The Tortured Poet’s Department.
All in all, even if you’re a devoted Beyoncè fan (which I’m sure if you are, you’re probably hollering at the screen right now…) you have to admit, there were better candidates this year. Why did Beyoncè win?
