Week of April 22

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Alethia Marrero was a member of the Indiana State 4 X 400 meter relay team that came in first at the six team Pacesetter Sports Invitational at ISU, won by the Sycamores.

Competing at the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational at Purdue, an event that was really an dual meet with Purdue that was won by the Boilers, Indiana’s Maya Caudle was fifth of five in the 200 meters dash (25.17).

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Illinois’ Luke Brahm finished eighth of 48 in the 1500 meters (3:51.01) at the10 team Illinois Twilight Meet, won by Illinois.

DePauw and Franklin competed at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. DePauw’s Demarco Henry was third of 36 in the discus (143-04). Franklin’s Nate Adams was 14th of 31 in the shot put (38-7 ½) and eighth of 36 in the hammer (149-00).

Indiana State’s Marcus Neely finished second of 14 in the 110 hurdles in 13.85 at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational at Indiana State.

Marian’s Moussa Conde was second of 34 (48.23) and  Aaron Murray was 10th (50.66)  in the 400 meters dash at the Little State Championships at Taylor. Both Conde and Murray were members of the Knights’ second place 4 X 400 meter relay team, in a field of nine. Indianapolis’ Jordan Boyd was seventh of 30 in the shot put (46-0 1/3), sixth of 31 in the hammer (166-7 ½), and 10th of 29 in the discus (133-9 1/2). Greyhound Trace Perez was 28th of 35 in the 1500 (4:32.36). Indianapolis won the 15 team meet, and Marian was fifth.

Illinois State’s Jordan Wilkerson competed in the decathlon at the University of Virginia Challenge and finished 10th of 16 with 3643 points. He was fourth in the 100 meters (11.02),  fourth in the 400 (49.87), 13thin the 110 hurdles (16.10), 10th in the high jump (6-1 ½), 16th in the pole vault (no height), 12th in the long jump (21-8 ¼), 12th in the shot put (36-7 ½), 14th in the discus (83-0 ¾), and tied for 15th and 16th in the javelin(foul).

SOFTBALL

Eastern Illinois (25-17) defeated Fort Wayne 1-0. Kayla Bear was hitless in two at bats and was caught stealing after a base on balls. She is hitting .317 (45 for 142).

Indiana Wesleyan (36-19, 23-7) won doubleheaders against Spring Arbor, Mount Vernon Nazarene, and Grace. Kaisey Carson had 11 hits (Including two doubles and one home run), seven runs scored, eight RBIs, and one stolen base in two attempts in 21 at bats in the six games. She is now hitting .566 (94 for 166). The senior pitched three complete game wins and relieved once in the six games and gave up 10 hits, four walks, three earned runs, and struck out 15 in 19 innings. She has a 17-5 record with an ERA of 1.64.

BASEBALL

Marian (23-18, 17-7) defeated Indiana Wesleyan and won two of three against Spring Arbor. Cody Turpenpinch ran and scored a run in the first Spring Arbor game.

MEN’S GOLF

In a dual meet between Calumet College of St. Joseph and Governors State, Calumet’s Daniel Eanes had scores of 97-97-194, third for his team and eighth of nine overall. At the Calumet Invitational, he was second for his team and 12th of 14 overall with scores of 79-90-169.

MEN’S TENNIS

Marian defeated Davenport 5-4 and Indiana Tech 7-2. Ian Deiters won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and 8-2 at No. 2 doubles against Davenport and 7-6, 6-3 and 8-3 against Tech.

Manchester lost 7-2 to Bethel and 9-0 to Hanover. Garrett Bear won 6-0, 7-6 at No. 5 singles and lost 8-3 at No. 2 doubles against Bethel and lost 6-1, 6-1 and 8-0 against Hanover.

Ohio Wesleyan lost 6-3 to Wabash. Wesleyan’s Jacob Volbers lost 9-8 at No. 3 doubles.
