MIC dominates first AP football poll

Giants ranked No. 3 in preseason

Despite being ranked No. 22 in the nation by USA Today, Ben Davis came in at No. 3 in the first Associated Press poll of the season.

Two conference rivals who played for last year’s Class 6A state title are ranked above the Giants with Carmel the preseason No. 1 and defending state champion Warren Central at No. 2.

The AP poll shapes up as:

Class 6A

1. Carmel

2. Warren Central

3. Ben Davis

4. Center Grove-

10. Lawrence Central

That means six Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference teams are ranked in the top 10 with North Central and Lawrence North in the also receiving votes category.

The Giants open the season at home Friday against preseaon Class 5A No. 1 Cathedral, the defending Class 5A state champions. Ben Davis has beaten Cathedral three straight years.
