BD Football: Week 2

Opponent:  Avon

Last week your Ben Davis Giants opened their season at home against the defending class 5A state champion Cathedral. Over the past three years the Giants had won all three games against the Irish by a total of 12 points…this year they won by 25. The final score of 44-19 not only sent a message to Cathedral, but also put the rest of the state on notice.

“I thought we played hard, fast and with good focus most of the time. Our penalties and mental lapses at other times will need to be fixed in order for this team to reach their potential,” head coach Mike Kirschner said.

However, one of the Giants’ main focal points this year is not dwelling on the past. That approach will be key this upcoming Friday against Avon. The Orioles are a top ten team in the state of Indiana. They also have an outstanding quarterback in Brandon Peters and an amazing defensive line with multiple division one recruits.

“This will be a very physical football game – a backyard war so to speak – they have a great QB in Brandon Peters, a physical offensive line, and a quick and elusive tailback,” Kirschner said. “Their defense plays fast and has the ability to control the line of scrimmage. We must be at the top of our game to be successful.”.

The Giants have their work cut out for them this week and have been practicing hard to put on a show for you on Friday night. Show your support by traveling to Avon for the game at 7 p.m.
